Return to live performing 2021

We were delighted to be able to return to live gigs in July 2021. Here are some compilations from our first gig in Greenhead Park, Huddersfield on 25th July 2021 and our second gig on 1st August 2021 in Golden Acre Park, Leeds.

 Our Tribute to Neil Jowett

As a tribute to our Musical Director, trumpet player, compere and very great friend, who sadly passed away in January 2021 one of our band members, Richard Jones, composed a piece of music which he entitled NJ's Swinging Blues.

Each band member recorded their own part at home, never having heard this music previously or played it before.

Socially Distanced Rehearsals

We were able to organise two socially distanced rehearsals in October 2020 until futher lockdowns prevented us from continuing. We returned again to socially distanced rehearsals in May 2021 and continued until July 2021. All rehearsals strictly followed DCMS guidance and had a full Risk Assessment in place. Here are some compilations of music from those rehearsals.

10th Birthday

January 2021 marked the 10th anniversary of the formation of Sundown Swing. As were not able to organise any events because of the coronovirus pandemic we made 3 videos which are a 'look back' at our concerts, gigs and trips.

The first video represents the years 2012-2013, the second is 2014-2016 and the third is 2017 to 2020.

Lockdown projects June 2020

During the Coronovirus lockdown of 2020 we were saddened to be missing our rehearsals and concerts so we embarked upon a lockdown project with the aim of bringing us together and also bringing our audiences some music from our homes.

Every band member made an individual recording at home of their part from the Dave Wolpe arrangement of 'Blue Moon'and we were grateful to two band colleagues who were both interested in compiling our recordings into a lockdown video both of which you can view below.

Vera Lynn Medley

We were all very saddened to hear of the passing of Dame Vera Lynn in June 2020, so for our second lockdown project here is our tribute which features Diane and Steve and was edited by Diane. Songs included in this medley are 'Bluebirds Over the White Cliffs of Dover,' 'I'll be Seeing You' and 'We'll Meet Again'.
