Sundown Swing

About Us

Sundown Swing was formed in January 2011 by a group of friends who were all experienced musicians, having previously played in local concert bands, brass bands and amateur orchestras. The band has increased in size over the last 8 years and now encompasses  the full range of instruments you would expect to find in a standard swing band.

We also now have two vocalists who add variety to our performances with solos and entertaining duets.

We perform 1920s to 1970s music including swing classics made famous by artists such as Glenn Miller and Count Basie in the 1940s and others more recently revived by Michael Buble and Robbie Williams. Please see our repertoire list for more details.

We are happy to perform at any function or concert, large or small. If you would like to book us for your function please contact us for more information.

The band has become very popular throughout the Huddersfield area where we have acheived many charity collaborations and have also played at many concerts, parties, weddings, anniversaries and outdoor functions. A highlight in 2017 was our Glenn Miller tribute concert which brought a capacity audience to Gledholt Methodist Church on a Sunday afternoon in May.

As well as performing throughout the Huddersfield area we embarked upon our third successive tour to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in August 2016 where we played to a capacity audience in the iconic St Giles' Cathedral. We also received standing ovations at St. Vincent's Chapel and St. Mark's Unitarian Church which is located adjacent to Edinburgh Castle.

Our first international tour took place in September 2017 when we had a fabulous trip to Spain's Costa Blanca where we performed 3 concerts. The first of these was at the prestigious El Cid Bar/Restaurant at Benidoleig in the beautiful Jalon Valley, where we played an outdoor concert to a capacity audience.

The following day it was a great privilege to perform at the magnificent Casa de Cultura in Calpe as guests of the Calpe and Benissa Lions who were celebrating 100 years of Lions International. Money raised from this concert went to support one of the Lions local charities.
Our final concert was in the historic centre of Alcalali where we again played to a capacity audience and literally had people dancing in the streets!

We are now busy planning a return visit to Spain in June 2019.
