Sundown Swing

About Us

Image description

Sundown Swing was formed in January 2011 by a group of friends who were all experienced musicians, having previously played in local concert bands, brass bands and amateur orchestras. The band has increased in size over the last 8 years and now encompasses  the full range of instruments you would expect to find in a standard big band.

We also now feature our vocalists who add variety to our performances with solos and entertaining duets.

We perform 1920s to 1970s music including swing favourites made famous by artists such as Glenn Miller and Count Basie in the 1940s and others more recently revived by Michael Buble and Robbie Williams. Please see our repertoire list for more details.

We are happy to perform at any function or concert, large or small. If you would like to book us for your function please contact us for more information.

The band has become very popular in their home town of Huddersfield and throughout the West Yorkshire area  and we have performed at numerous concerts, charity functions, parties, weddings, anniversaries and outdoor functions.

UK Tours

Sundown Swing have performed at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival for 3 successive years from 2014 to 2016. We were delighted to play to a capacity audience in the iconic St Giles' Cathedral on Edinburgh's Royal Mile and also received standing ovations at St Vincent's Chapel and at St Mark's Unitarian Church located adjacent to Edinburgh Castle.

In May 2019 we were privileged to perform at St Catherine's Church, Burbage, Leicestershire as part of their Music Festival. The church was filled with the sounds of Miller, Gershwin and many other swing favourites and an appreciative audience joined in with enthusiastic dancing.

We have already been invited back to perform another concert at the same venue in May 2020.

International Tours

Our first international tour took place in September 2017 when we had a fabulous trip to Spain's Costa Blanca where we performed 3 concerts ending with a wonderful evening performing in the historic centre of Alcalali playing to a capacity audience and literally having people dancing in the streets!

In June 2019 we returned to the Costa Blanca where we again played to a capacity audience at El Cid Bar/Restaurant at Benidoleig and also performed at a new venue for us; Piton's Restaurant at Pedreguer where we played on the terrace at their barbecue evening. This concert was in aid of  the charity Jalon Valley Help and we were delighted to be able to assist with their fundraising.

The highlight of our trip was a joint concert with the Calpe based band Xaranga la Xarlota at the magnificent Casa de Cultura in Calpe. This enthusiastic band made up mostly of young people made a guest appearance playing some Spanish paso dobles and a selection of show and Beatles tunes. The concert came to a rousing finale with both bands joining forces to play 'Happy' and 'In the Mood'. This delighted the capacity audience on this wonderful occasion.
